Upper Eyelid in Calgary CA
Surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids or Blepharoplasty is a procedure usually performed on otherwise healthy patients who may have excess skin, muscle, and fat around the eyelids. The operation is done to rejuvenate the eyelids and achieves a more youthful appearance.
Incisions are carefully made along predetermined marks on the skin. These marks are made so the scar will be hidden in natural creases of the skin. Once the incisions are made, the excess skin is removed.
Excess muscle is also carefully removed.
Underneath the muscle, two pockets of fat are exposed. A series of surgical instruments are used to remove the fat.
The incision is closed with small sutures that are usually underneath the skin. The sutures may also be absorbable.
The sutures are usually left in place for three to five days. The patient may have bruising and swelling that will last up to a week or more. Often patients are able to resume fairly normal activities within the first two weeks.

Calgary By car
Many people can be confused or lost when they first drive around in Calgary. Not because the streets are confusing, but rather because Calgary is laid out into four quadrants (North-East, South-East, South-West and North-West) and the type of road (Street or Avenue) matters in terms of direction (streets go north-south, avenues go east-west). Once you understand the layout of the city, you will find it very easy to navigate.
Calgary is divided into its quadrants at Centre Ave and Centre St. Being north of Centre Ave means you are in the northern quadrants and being east of Centre St means you are in the eastern quadrants. All street and avenue numbers radiate out from centre so being on 17th ave SW is fairly close to centre while being on 52nd St NE is not.

Calgary City Layout and Navigation
Calgary is divided into four quadrants, NE, NW, SE, SW. The dividing line between east and west is Centre Street in the north and roughly Macleod Trail in the south (although in a couple spots it deviates: through downtown and near Chinook Centre, where an actual Centre Street exists, albeit as a collector or local road). The dividing line between north and south is generally the Bow River in the west, and Centre Avenue (north of Memorial Drive) in the east. Addresses proceed outwards from the center of the city; for example, 219 16th Avenue NE is located on 16th Avenue N, between 1st and 2nd Street E.

Objective To provide an updated and expanded analysis of clinical outcome and immunohistochemical (IHC) findings unique to primary dermal melanoma (PDM) that may be used to differentiate this entity from primary nodular melanoma (PNM) and cutaneous metastatic melanoma (MM).
Design Cohort analysis and extensive IHC panel comparing PDM with PNM and cutaneous MM.
Setting Melanoma clinics and pathology departments of academic and VA medical centers.
Patients Thirteen patients with a solitary dermal or subcutaneous nodule of histologically proven melanoma, prospectively followed through April 30, 2007.
Interventions Clinical, pathologic, and IHC assessment of patients diagnosed as having PDM.
Main Outcome Measures Long-term clinical outcome and determination of unique clinical and IHC features in the study cohort compared with other melanoma subtypes.
Results Histologically, there was no evidence of an overlying in situ component, ulceration, or regression, and there was no associated nevus in any cases. Clinical history and findings from workup, including imaging studies, skin examination, and sentinel lymph node biopsy, were negative for evidence of melanoma elsewhere. The mean Breslow depth was 9.6 mm. Two patients developed satellite or in-transit recurrences, 1 developed pulmonary metastasis, and another died of liver metastases. Overall, the cohort showed a 92% melanoma-specific survival rate at a mean duration of follow-up of 44 months. The IHC findings showed that PDM exhibited lower levels of staining for the antigens p53 (P = .02), Ki-67 (Mib-1) (P = .002), cyclin D1 (P = .001), and podoplanin (recognized by D2-40 antibody) lymphovascular staining (P <.001) compared with MM and PNM. All other markers were comparable.
Conclusions Patients with PDM have remarkably prolonged survival compared with patients with MM or PNM of similar thickness. Preliminary results suggest that PDM may be characterized by lower levels of p53, Ki-67, cyclin D1, and D2-40 compared with histologically similar MM and PNM.
- Liver transplant is a life saving treatment option for people with end-stage liver disease. Unfortunately, the need for donor livers far exceeds the supply. Each year only about one-third of people who need a donor liver will receive one, and some patients die while waiting.
