Sex Change Operation in NM (New Mexico) - Male to Female Procedure

Plastic surgery for male to female SRS involves the removal of the penis and the reshaping of the remaining genital tissue to appear more female thereby constructing a vagina. An incision is made into the scrotum, the flap of skin is pulled back and the testis is removed. The skin is stripped from the penis but is left attached and the urethra is cut. The excess skin is used to create the labia and the vagina. This body procedure is called a vaginoplasty. After the surgery, the patient would need to take in female hormones (estrogen) to further reshape the body’s contour. This hormone will also stimulate the growth of breasts.

NM sex change operation - News update:
Abstract  Reconstruction of the subtotal upper lip with a columellar defect is still a problem for reconstructive surgeons. Various techniques have been reported for this purpose. Each technique has its own drawbacks, and few can be performed in one stage. Although Karapandzic describes the standard procedure that functionally reconstructs large defects in the upper and lower lip, the Karapandzic flap is not sufficient for the columellar defects. It is a simple and safe technique; results are satisfactory, functional, and aesthetically well tolerated, sacrifice less tissue, and are effective for repairing defects. We report a 74-year-old male who presented with a large, fungating, pus-discharging ulcerative mass on his upper lip including the columella. Biopsy results confirmed squamous cell carcinoma. The tumor was excised and defects were reconstructed using a simple modification of the Karapandzic flap. This modification of the Karapandzic flap provides adequate tissue for the subtotal upper lip defect including the columellar defect. Sex Change Operation in NM (New Mexico) - Female to Male Procedure

Though more uncommon, there are still several women who opt for female to male gender reassignment. This body procedure has achieved lesser success due to the difficulty of creating a functional penis from the original tissue in the clitoris. Preliminary surgery to remove the female organs will be needed and the next series of procedures will be done a year after. Aside from the genital organs, the breasts will also need to be altered in order to get a male appearance.

New Mexico Talk

"American Indian" or "Native American"?

In many places in the United States, the neologism "Native American" has replaced "American Indian" as the descriptor for indigenous peoples, "American Indian" being viewed by some as pejorative. In New Mexico, however, "American Indian" is still widely used, and indeed was preferred by members of several northern New Mexico pueblos in a poll conducted a few years ago. (Actually, the most common response was "it doesn't really matter," but "American Indian" was preferred by a plurality of those who expressed an opinion.) You can use either term without discomfort, and need not go to any lengths to structure your language one way or the other when visiting the Institute of American Indian Arts, Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonials, Santa Fe Indian Market, etc.
