Outside Lower Eyelid Procedure

Surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids or Blepharoplasty is a procedure usually performed on otherwise healthy patients who may have excess skin, muscle, and fat around the eyelids. The operation is done to rejuvenate the eyelids and achieves a more youthful appearance.
An incision is made in the lower eyelid just underneath the lid margin where a normally occurring line or crease exists. The skin is gently pulled back to allow access to the area.
The tissue is dissected to the underlying fat pockets. The surgeon will gently press on the eye to better expose the fat that will be removed.
The pockets of fat are exposed and a series of surgical instruments are used to remove the fat.
The excess skin is pulled away and removed.
The wounds are closed with suture of the surgeon's preference.
Sutures may be removed in 3-5 days. Healing time may take up to two weeks. The patient can expect to see swelling and bruising during this time. It is possible that it may take several months before final results are achieved.

  • Australia Time zones

Mainland Australia has three time zones, on account of its large geographical range:

Eastern Standard Time (EST) - operates in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland, 10 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
Central Standard Time (CST) - operates in South Australia and the Northern Territory (half an hour behind EST, 9.5 hours ahead of GMT)
Western Standard Time (WST) - operates in Western Australia (two hours behind EST, 8 hours ahead of GMT).

Several Australian states observe daylight saving time during the summer season. In NSW, ACT, VIC, SA and WA, daylight savings time applies from the end of October to the end of March and in Tasmania from the beginning of October to the end of March. (In 2006 only, daylight saving begins on December 3 in WA). Queensland and the Northern Territory do not use daylight savings time. Due to the half hour difference between CST and EST, this means that during summer there are five different time zones operating in Australia: GMT+9 (WA), GMT+9.5 (NT), GMT+10 (Qld), GMT+10.5 (SA) and GMT+11 (NSW, ACT, Vic, Tas).

  • Australia Get in

Australia is completely surrounded by ocean: there is no way to travel overland to Australia. Hence, all international visitors arrive by plane or by boat. Almost all travellers will first travel to one of the state capitals, as these have all the major airports and many of the major ports.

  • As part of the "Hitting the Headlines" service on the National Library for Health (NLH), a quality assessment has been conducted of the newspaper reports that suggest folic acid taken for at least a year before pregnancy can reduce the risks of premature births by 50- 70%. The reports were based on a press release that summarised the findings of an unpublished observational study in 38,033 women with uncomplicated singleton pregnancies. This suggested that folate supplementation for at least 1 year prior to conception was linked to a 50% reduction in early preterm deliveries (28 to 32 weeks in gestation age) and a 70% decrease in very early preterm deliveries (20 to 28 weeks), regardless of age, race or other factors. The assessment noted that the newspaper articles accurately summarised the information in the press release, but since full details of the study have not been published, it was not possible to complete a full critical appraisal of this research.

  • Henry Ford Hospital is embarking on an expanded major clinical trial involving the use of gene therapy in combination with radiation therapy, to determine if the combined treatment is more effective than radiation therapy alone for patients with intermediate risk prostate cancer.
