Liposuction Procedure

The procedure can "sculpture " your body by removing extra fat from tummy, buttocks, arms, knees, cheeks and neck.. You must remember that liposuction is not an alternative for diet and exercise, it's main target is to help remove extra fat from areas in which fat reduction cannot be done successfully by dieting.

The ideal candidates for the surgery are people with normal weight, elastic skin and areas of "fat pockets" in their body. There are no age limits but older people has less elastic skin and therefore might get results that are worse then the younger patients.

Liposuction can be done by several techniques: solution injection - in which the surgeon injects a special solution to the fat tissue. The solution consists of anesthetics to reduce pain. Adrenalin to reduce bleeding and fluid to help separate the fat from the tissue.

The tumescent technique - much larger amounts of solution is being injected. Surgeons use this method, which allows to inject large amounts of anesthetics, and therefore this kind of procedure can be done with local anesthetics. The operation usually takes longer than the first one (4-5 hours).

The super wet technique in which the amount of solution injected equals the amount of fat tissue removed. This method also takes longer time and has to be done with general anesthetics.

Ultrasound assisted lipoplasty is another technique in which sound waves targeted to fat tissue. The waves break the connection between the fat cells, which are then being removed by suction. This method can be used in areas with connective tissue like the back and male breasts and also in areas that require more precise suction.

After the surgery to avoid swelling the areas of the suction will have elastic bandages. The surgeon may also leave draining tubes to prevent fluid collection. You might also receive antibiotics to prevent an infection.

Every surgery has its complications. In liposuction of 5 liter of fat and more there is a risk of fat or clot emboli to the lungs and even death. Extra fluids might be difficult to remove. The suction tube may cause skin necrosis or alter sensation in the area due to nerve damage. The ultrasound technique regarded as relatively safe produces, but it is a new one therefore the long term damage still unknown. In general, the surgery presents an extra rick for patients with diabetes, lung and heart disease and for those who had similar procedure in the past.

  • Russia Migration Card

When you go through passport control into Russia, you will give the border official a filled-in migration card. You should be given the card back, and it should be stamped. You must carry this card with you at all times in Russia, and you may be asked for it when you leave. You receive the migration card while you're en-route to Russia, either on the train or in the plane. It is a small white piece of paper nearly the size of two index cards. There are two parts: one for exit and one for entry. When you cross the border the 'entry' portion is taken and you keep 'exit' part. You must get this card registered. If on a tourist visa, your hotel should do this. If you are on a business visa, usually it is best to do it through the company that got you the invitation. This registration has a fee also, and without it you could get in trouble. Police on the streets will do random passport checks so you must have your passport on you at all times. But you're not alone — this goes for Russian citizens as well.

  • Dawn Primarolo, the public health minister, has announced a new pilot scheme – the ‘Healthcare Technology Co-operative’ – which will bring together healthcare providers and industry to ‘catalyse’ the development of new health care products. The pilots will be based at Barts and the London NHS Trust and, subject to contract, Sheffield NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. The two centres will each receive £275,000 a year for the first two years, with the potential for further funding if successful. Researchers at Barts and the Royal London Hospital will investigate new technologies to improve bowel function, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals will lead a team looking into new technologies to support stroke survivors and people with disabilities, amongst others. Please see the press release at the link above for further information.

  • The Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has called for a series of changes to be made to the pharmacy contract in a speech at the PSNC annual dinner. He called for more advanced pharmacy services that were nationally agreed and specified with national funding. He referred to services such as minor ailments, weight management, and a range of screening and diagnostic services in addition to services designed to manage long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma. The dinner was attended by Pharmacy Minister Dawn Primarolo MP and in response she mentioned that patient surveys carried out in preparation for the soon to be published Pharmacy White paper clearly showed the “high esteem that pharmacy is held”. She also informed people attending the dinner that pharmacy will have a much bigger role to play in primary care in the next 10 years and will be clearly acknowledged for doing so. Further information, including a text of the speech, is available via the link above.
