What is Lipoplasty?

Lipoplasty is a common body procedure that is used for removing unwanted excess fat from certain areas of the body. A Lipoplasty, which is a plastic surgery used for body contouring, is known more commonly as a liposuction.

Who Should Opt For Lipoplasty?

A Lipoplasty is a good option for people who are not extremely overweight since only 25% of the total fat from a certain portion of the body can be removed through a Lipoplasty. It is advised only for people who need small amounts of fat removal for reshaping and contouring body parts like the breasts, hips, thighs, abdomen arms and double chins.

People who want larger portions of fat removed are advised regular plastic surgery procedures like thigh lifts, buttock lifts and tummy tucks etcetera. People with heart problems, smokers, diabetics and those suffering from any other ailments are not advised Lipoplasty. Only a qualified plastic surgeon will be able to tell you if you are an ideal candidate for liposuction or not.

The Lipoplasty Procedure

A Lipoplasty or liposuction is carried out by making a small incision on the area in question, inserting a hollow wand called a cannula into the body through the incision and sucking out excess fat from this vacuum-hose like wand. Medication for controlling pain and bleeding are administered before the procedure.

Lipoplasty - Benefits

A Lipoplasty, unlike regular surgery is minimally invasive. Yet it can provide great fat removal results for those who are not heavily overweight by providing them with nicely sculpted, shapely bodies in a short time.

Lipoplasty - Risks and Side Effects

Lipoplasty carries the same risks as all other plastic surgery procedures, namely scarring, bleeding, infection, bruising and disfiguration. A careless plastic surgeon may also cause permanent dimpling of the skin. However, almost all these risks can be avoided by choosing a reputed plastic surgeon and clinic for this kind of cosmetic procedure.

Costs

The cost of lipoplasty will depend upon your geographical location, your choice of surgeon and clinic, the type of liposuction you are going for and the body part from which fat removal has to take place. Your plastic surgeon will be able to tell you about the exact costs only after personal examination.
