It is the most popular plastic surgery among men. Prior to deciding on a procedure it is important to rule out other reasons for hair loss. Those include hormonal imbalance, undiagnosed disease or recent trauma to the area. To make the replacement the surgeon uses the hair around the head, behind the ears and on the neck, therefore, the ideal candidates for this procedure are people with thick hair in those places.

This procedure can be performed using the following methods:

Skin implants with hair - this is the most common and easiest technique. Small pieces of skin (diameter 4-4.5m"m) are taken from the neck, each containing 10-15 hair follicles and implanted into hole at desired location. Afterwards the area is bandaged for 24-48 hours. The new hair does not grow right away, it usually takes 3-4 month. The donor site usually recovers after 10 days. Skin flaps - this method uses long bands of hairy skin taken from around the head to the bold areas. The flat is moved with its own blood supply. This method can create unnatural hairline requiring additional implant to cover the scars on the sides.

Scalp reduction using skin expanders - the surgeon can minimize the boldness by removing some of the scalp skin using tissue expanders. An expander is put under the skin and inflated gradually. The extra skin is removed and closed. This technique requires two operations and takes more time.

Every operation has its ricks. An infection can occur, the implant may not "take" and bleeding may occur.

After the surgery you should avoid vigorous activities at least a three weeks. You'll be able to go to work after several days. The implants may fall off after 6 weeks, this is normal. It'll take another 5-6 weeks for the hair to grow.

  You should avoid using your car in the city, or esp. in the tourist "hot spots" like Sachsenhausen (especially on a Saturday) because of parking space. It's very limited, and people tend to park in places they're not supposed to. This ends up costing a fair bit if your car gets towed, which it often will. If you want to enter the city, your best bet is to use a Parkhaus (parking garage) (which charges a fee of 1€ per hour or 8€ for the whole day) and then either walk, or take public transportation.
  
  You should be aware that many areas are reserved for local residents, in and outside the city. You will see the areas marked by parking signs that indicate a local permit is needed during certain hours during the day. The wording to be aware of is "Parkausweis Nr.X" (where X is a number). If you park in these spaces you risk a fine.

• Objective  To estimate annual direct and indirect health care costs in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) managed with conventional therapies.

  Design  A cost analysis consisting of a survey-guided and retrospective medical record review of direct and indirect health care costs from a societal perspective in patients with CIU.

  Setting  The Johns Hopkins University allergy and dermatology ambulatory clinics.

  Participants  Fifty adults with active CIU were recruited in sequential order. Individuals who were taking corticosteroids or other immunosuppressants in the month before enrollment were excluded from the study.

  Main Outcome Measures  We estimated direct health care costs, which included laboratory, medication, outpatient visit, and emergency department and hospital visit costs. We also estimated indirect costs, which included earnings lost owing to travel to outpatient visits and absences from work owing to CIU-related illness.

  Results  Patients with CIU consumed a mean (SD) of $2047 ($1483) annually. Because CIU is primarily an outpatient disease, medication costs alone accounted for 62.5% ($1280) of the total annual cost. Indirect costs accounted for 15.7% ($322) of the total costs.

  Conclusions  High medication costs, followed by total indirect costs, result in the largest economic burden among patients with CIU. High medication costs may place low-income patients at risk for suboptimal treatment and increased burden due to poorly controlled disease. Our estimated total health care costs for CIU are comparable to those of other skin diseases such as vitiligo and bullous disease.
