Leeds Breast Augmentation - The plastic surgery procedure

The operation is usually done when the breast reaches its final size after puberty (ages 17-18). Except for cases when there is congenital breast hypoplasia or breast asymmetry in which it can be done earlier.

Leeds breast augmentation - The implants
There are three possible sites for the insertion of an implant. The lower fold of the breast is the most common site. It allows full excess and lives a hidden scar. The second site is through the areola. This incision gives the best esthetic results but it is also the only one that goes through the breast tissue therefore the risk of infection and sensation loss is higher. The third one is through the armpits. Some surgeons prefer it because the scar is almost invisible (except for those women who like to wear open close with no sleeves(. The disadvantage of this incision is a slight asymmetry of the breast. The decision usually made individually with each woman and the surgeon.

Leeds breast augmentation - Insertion locations
The implant can be inserted above or below the chest muscles. The below position considered to be more preferable by most surgeons. There is less chance of feeling the implant, less chance of developing irregular folds or bumps on the surface of the breast and the implant is less likely to drop. This kind of technique is suitable for women with relatively little extra skin and less fallen breasts.

Most of the implants are made of silicon, and since the FDA determined that they safe for use they are being widely used by most Leeds surgeons.

Leeds breast augmentation - Shape and Size
The implants come in two shapes: round and pear shape also called "anatomic implants" because their shape resembles the natural contour of the breast. They are more expensive and require larger excision.

The size of an implant usually depends on the woman size and proportions, the average size is 300cc. It is believed that smaller implants have lower complications.

Leeds - breast augmentation - After The Plastic Surgery
After the surgery you'll be wearing a sports bra or a bandage. You'll continue wearing them at all times day and night for about a month. You'll be able to take a shower 24 hours after the surgery. The most optimal results usually seen 3 month after the surgery. Several things can complicate this procedure; those are rare complications, which you should be aware off. Bleeding around the area of the implant, infection, disturbances of sensation and touch around the nipples, silicon leak, rejection off an implant and some degree of irregularity on the surface of an implant.

  • Leeds By road

Leeds is perhaps the best connected UK city by road, lying right in the centre of the country, halfway between London and Edinburgh on the A1 (now largely motorway), and halfway between the two coasts, linked to Liverpool, Manchester, the M6 and Hull by the M62. The M1 motorway runs from London to Leeds via Milton Keynes, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield. Whilst driving into Leeds and around the city centre, particularly at rush hour, is best avoided, making the trip by car is fairly uncomplicated, with the M621, A64, A65, A61, A58 and several other major roads converging on central Leeds.

  • Leeds By coach

Express coaches also serve Leeds' modern bus station - for cheap ones from Newcastle and London check Megabus.com or for slightly more expensive ones from a far wider variety of destinations, try National Express. The Yorkshire Coastliner bus connects Leeds with York and the beautiful Yorkshire coast, though the train is faster and more comfortable. Leeds Bus & Coach station is in the east of the city centre, near Quarry Hill, where the Playhouse is situated. It is an easy walk to the main shopping area, and by 2011 extensive renovation will have linked the station to the main shopping area. In the mean time, to reach further parts of the city centre, the Free City Bus stops here, and of course many of the city's main bus routes terminate in the bus station.

Plastic Surgery News...

  • Background  For decades, the photodistributed blue-gray skin hyperpigmentation observed after amiodarone therapy was presumably attributed to dermal lipofuscinosis. Using electron microscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography, we identified amiodarone deposits in the hyperpigmented skin sample from a patient treated with this antiarrhythmic agent. Our findings therefore indicate that the hypothesis relating the blue-gray hyperpigmentation to lipofuscin should be challenged.

Observations  A 64-year-old man, skin phototype III, presented with asymptomatic skin hyperpigmentation that had been slowly developing on sun-exposed areas since April 2004. He had been taking amiodarone for 4 years (cumulative dose, 277 g). Electron microscopy did not show lipofuscin pigments in his skin. Conversely, abundant electron-dense membrane-bound granule deposits were observed in most of the dermal cells (fibroblasts, macrophages, pericytes, Schwann cells, and endothelial cells), especially in photoexposed skin. High-performance liquid chromatography confirmed that the skin deposits were composed of amiodarone. These results demonstrate that amiodarone hyperpigmentation is related to drug deposition on photoexposed skin.

Conclusion  Amiodarone-related hyperpigmentation should be considered a skin storage disease that is secondary to drug deposition.

  • A news article published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) discusses the results of a survey conducted by the research company ComRes, which found that 46% of over 100 UK drug companies surveyed expect to cut back on clinical trials in the coming year because of continued uncertainty about future arrangements for pricing drugs. The survey was conducted on behalf of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and the Confederation of British Industry. Other findings include lack of confidence in the current UK market, and expected cuts in staff, and research and development. Nearly all respondents thought they would face increasingly difficult conditions and greater uncertainty; this lack of confidence is being blamed by some on the government’s decision to scrap the pharmaceutical price regulation scheme (PPRS), and to replace it with a new scheme from September 2008.
