Cambridge Breast Augmentation - The plastic surgery procedure

The operation is usually done when the breast reaches its final size after puberty (ages 17-18). Except for cases when there is congenital breast hypoplasia or breast asymmetry in which it can be done earlier.

Cambridge breast augmentation - The implants
There are three possible sites for the insertion of an implant. The lower fold of the breast is the most common site. It allows full excess and lives a hidden scar. The second site is through the areola. This incision gives the best esthetic results but it is also the only one that goes through the breast tissue therefore the risk of infection and sensation loss is higher. The third one is through the armpits. Some surgeons prefer it because the scar is almost invisible (except for those women who like to wear open close with no sleeves(. The disadvantage of this incision is a slight asymmetry of the breast. The decision usually made individually with each woman and the surgeon.

Cambridge breast augmentation - Insertion locations
The implant can be inserted above or below the chest muscles. The below position considered to be more preferable by most surgeons. There is less chance of feeling the implant, less chance of developing irregular folds or bumps on the surface of the breast and the implant is less likely to drop. This kind of technique is suitable for women with relatively little extra skin and less fallen breasts.

Most of the implants are made of silicon, and since the FDA determined that they safe for use they are being widely used by most Cambridge surgeons.

Cambridge breast augmentation - Shape and Size
The implants come in two shapes: round and pear shape also called "anatomic implants" because their shape resembles the natural contour of the breast. They are more expensive and require larger excision.

The size of an implant usually depends on the woman size and proportions, the average size is 300cc. It is believed that smaller implants have lower complications.

Cambridge - breast augmentation - After The Plastic Surgery
After the surgery you'll be wearing a sports bra or a bandage. You'll continue wearing them at all times day and night for about a month. You'll be able to take a shower 24 hours after the surgery. The most optimal results usually seen 3 month after the surgery. Several things can complicate this procedure; those are rare complications, which you should be aware off. Bleeding around the area of the implant, infection, disturbances of sensation and touch around the nipples, silicon leak, rejection off an implant and some degree of irregularity on the surface of an implant.

  • Cambridge Taxis

Expect to spend at least $5 for a short taxi ride and possibly up to $40 for a trip to Logan Airport (this includes the initial fare, a small tip for the driver, small one-way streets, bad traffic, construction, tolls for bridges, tolls for tunnels, tolls for the MassPike, and any wait time).

The best way to find a taxi in Cambridge is to go to a subway station and find a cab at its nearby taxi stand. It is sometimes possible to signal a passing taxi on the street. You can also telephone a local cab company to ask them to pick you up.

One trick to save a $3.25 on a trip to the airport, if you are in Cambridge but near boston, is to call a Boston cab company. They will send someone to pick you up (usually as fast as a Cambridge company), and you will not be obliged to pay round-trip tolls.

  • Pfizer would like to notify healthcare professionals of the following changes made to the summary of product characteristics (SmPC) for Macugen® (pegaptanib): 1. Section 4.2 (posology and method of administration) The following additional wording has been added: “After 2 consecutive injections of Macugen, if a patient does not demonstrate a treatment benefit (loss of less than 15 letters of visual acuity) at the 12-week visit, consideration should be given to stopping or withholding Macugen therapy.” 2. Addition of details of a new luer lock syringe presentation – affecting sections 6.5 and 6.6 of SmPC The SmPC now refers to a new Macugen presentation within sections 6.5 and 6.6 of the SmPC; a luer lock presentation which is a pre-filled syringe with a pre-attached luer lock and has removed any reference to the currently available Macugen presentation, a pre-filled syringe with a pre-attached 27-gauge needle. Due to productivity issues, the luer lock presentation will not be available in the UK until later in the year. In the interim, the current Macugen presentation using the pre-attached 27-gauge needle will remain available for use. Any questions relating to this SmPC change should be directed to Pfizer Medical Information on 01304 616161.
