Playsmaplasy - What Is It?
Neck muscle repair is medically termed as platysmaplasty. In this unique plastic surgery, the platysma or the superficial plane of the neck muscle is repaired for improving the neckline and correcting the visible neck muscle bands. This neck procedure could be combined with other face procedures like mid-face lift, neck lift, general facelift, eyelid surgery, chemical peel, etc. The plastic surgeon might use Botox for the reduction of the visible neckbands due to overactive muscles.
Playsmaplasy - How Is It Done?
The plastic surgeon would administer a general or local anesthetic and in certain cases, intravenous sedation might be given. When the anesthetic takes effect, the surgeon would make an incision of three to four centimeters under the chin. The surgeon would repair the platysma to the extent required through careful realignment of the neck muscle sheet. Finally, the incision would be closed with appropriate sutures. The patient might be required to wear a neckband for about 2 weeks to protect the operated area. The entire operation would take about an hour.
Playsmaplasy - After the Surgery:
The swelling and numbness would subside within 2-3 weeks. However, in most cases, the patient would be able to resume normal work routine in about 10 days. The risks of nerve damage, infection, and scarring should be expected. However, if the platysmaplasty were done by a skilled plastic surgeon, these risks would not occur.
Normally, the repaired neck muscle would never separate again. Still, another neck surgery might be required in a few cases due to the loss of the elasticity of the skin. Some patients might need a neck lift operation for further improvement of the neck position. The cost of a standard neck muscle repair would vary between $2,000 and $4,000. Additional plastic surgery requirements would result in extra spending. It is advisable to have a detailed discussion with the plastic surgeon regarding all the aspects of the neck procedure and face procedure requirements to evaluate the costs and the complications involved.
