It is not intended to define the format of the abstract, as journals will have their own styles for this, but just to ensure that the most important information is included. Items included in the checklist are: details of the trial's objectives; trial design (e.g., method of allocation, blinding); participants in the trial (i.e., description, numbers randomised and analysed); interventions intended for each randomised group and their effect on primary efficacy outcomes and harms; the trial's conclusions; the trial's registration name and number; and source of funding.
