Cheek Implants - What Is It?

If there were any deficiency in the cheek structure, your face would appear gaunt and drawn. The lower face would look heavy and the area under the eye would have an aged appearance. Strong cheekbones and soft tissues in the cheek area are important for an attractive face. You would look healthy and youthful with prominent and full cheeks. On the other hand, fatty or large cheeks would give a heavy, overweight appearance. Cheek augmentation should be performed properly to provide the right facial look if there is a deficiency in the structure of the cheeks. The plastic surgeon performing this cheek procedure should be a highly skilled person.

Cheek Implants - How Is It Done?

Several types of cheek implants are available now. One of the oldest methods of cheek augmentation is bone grafting. Another buccal face procedure is autologous tissue grafting, excluding fat. However, in this type of plastic surgery, care should be taken to avoid infections and contour irregularities. Autologous fat grafting is an effective method for cheek augmentation. This process is also known as lipostructure, fat injection, micro-lipoinjection, and volume restoration. Cadaveric bone grafting and tissue grafting are also practiced but the risk of rejection of the external bones and tissues are much higher than using your own bones and tissues.

Cheek Implants - After the Surgery:

Silicone implants are quite popular because they are highly flexible but also long lasting. The silicone cheek implants are manufactured in different degrees of hardness with varying softness and hardness. These cheek implants enhance the soft tissue areas but do not affect the underlying structure of the cheekbones. The other types of cheek implants are expanded polytetrafluoroethylene implants. These implants are softer than silicone implants and the biochemical reaction is much lesser. Polyethylene cheek implants and hydroxyapatite implants are the other options for cheek augmentation. You could also consider injectable products like collagen, hyaluronic acid, injectable hydroxyapatite paste, and poly-methyl methacrylate or PMMA for cheek augmentation.

cheek implants - News update:
In the first study to use imaging technology to see what goes on in the brain when we scratch, researchers at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center have uncovered new clues about why scratching may be so relieving - and why it can be hard to stop. The work is reported online in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and will appear in a future print issue."Our study shows for the first time how scratching may relieve itch," said lead author Gil Yosipovitch, M.D. More...
