Breast reduction is an operation that is usually considered a reconstructive procedure and is many times covered by insurance plans. The surgery is performed to make the breasts smaller, as well as lift the breasts to a more youthful position. The purpose of the surgery is to alleviate back and neck pain as well as to aid in hygiene in the folds underneath the breasts.

Here is some General Information about Lebanon:

Lebanon People

The people of Lebanon comprise a wide variety of ethnic groups and religions, with the majority split between Muslim (Shi'a, Sunni) and Christian (Maronite, Greek Orthodox, Greek-Catholic Melkites, Armenians, Copts). Other smaller groups include Druze and Allawites. There are a large number (over 300,000) of Palestinian refugees in the country.

The population increases dramatically in the Summer months (June to September), due to the large number of tourists from other Middle Eastern countries and the temporary return of a large number of the Lebanese diaspora.

In general, be aware that each group is quite likely to dislike any one of the others and is not going to be circumspect about expressing this. Unless you wish to listen to an embarrassingly vehement diatribe about some group, avoid any comment on politics and, for example, mentioning having visited areas of Beirut associated with another group.

Marks are made on the skin according to the type of reduction planned by the patient and the surgeon. This is usually performed before the patient is taken back to the operating room with the patient in a sitting or standing position.

With the patient now asleep, incisions are made around the predetermined marks on the breasts.

The breast tissue is removed with an electro cautery instrument that cauterizes bleeding vessels while it removes the breast tissue. This helps reduce the amount of blood that is lost during the operation.

What are the Techniques Involved?
There are two ways to perform breast reduction In Lebanon(LB): one which involves a longer scar or an "anchor" scar, which is the procedure of choice in cases of very large breasts. The surgeon cuts through the nipple down and behind the breast folds. The second one involves a smaller scar, which is suitable for medium-sized breasts. The cut is made only through the nipple and through the fold.

The incisions are closed with sutures.

The patient is placed in a compression garment or bra. Compression garments are an important part of the recovery process. The garment provides support, comfort and helps to minimize swelling. The patient is usually wearing a bra or some type of supportive garment at all times, except when showering. Healing time is approximately three months. Scarring is variable and often depends on the patient`s ability to heal.

Lebanon breast reduction vertical incision - News update:
According to the findings of a meta-analysis published early online in Thorax, “a short course of antibiotic treatment is as effective as the traditional longer treatment in patients with mild to moderate exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and COPD.” Researchers searched for double-blind RCTs in adults with a clinical diagnosis of exacerbation of COPD or chronic bronchitis, who were not receiving antibiotics at the time of diagnosis, and who were randomised to antibiotic treatment up to 5 days vs. > 5 days. The primary outcome measure was clinical cure at early follow-up, on an intention to treat basis. They identified 21 studies involving 10,698 patients; the average quality of the studies was considered high (mean Jadad score = 3.9). The following results were reported: • At early follow-up (< 25 days), the summary odds ratio (OR) for clinical cure with short treatment vs. conventional treatment was 0.99 (95% CI 0.90 to 1.08). • At late follow-up the summary OR was 1.0 (95% CI 0.91 to 1.10) and the summary OR for bacteriological cure was 1.05 (95% CI 0.87 to 1.26) with short vs. conventional treatment • Similar summary ORs were observed for early cure in trials with the same antibiotic in both arms and in studies grouped by the antibiotic class used in the short-course arm. The researchers suggest that these findings “support the effectiveness of short course treatment in mild to moderate exacerbations of COPD or chronic bronchitis characterised by at least two of the following criteria: increased cough and/or dyspnoea, increased sputum volume and increased purulence. Based on the included studies, it seems that the duration of antibiotic treatment can be safely reduced.” More...
