Bellybutton Revision surgery, also known as Umbilicoplasty, is used to alter the look and shape of your bellybutton alone. The shape of your bellybutton is determined at birth, but may change over time due to weight changes, pregnancy, or an umbilical (bellybutton) hernia. One may desire a "T" shape to the belly button, created by a tiny bit of overhanging abdominal skin over the top portion of the bellybutton or a horizontally shaped belly button to take on more of a vertical orientation. Bellybutton Revision surgery may be combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures, such as Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, and Breast Augmentation or done as an entirely separate procedure.

Bellybutton Revision, or Umbilicoplasty is performed with local anesthesia or conscious sedation by request of the patient. The procedure takes the average of 30 to 90 minutes. The surgery is usually performed in the doctor`s office operating room, although a surgical facility may be used, especially if other procedures are performed simultaneously.

In the first 24 to 48 hours after your procedure you will notice very little swelling, bruising or discomfort. Most people return to work and normal activities either the same day or the day after the procedure. The healing process starts immediately.

As with any surgery, you can help reduce the risks by closely following the pre and post-surgery instructions provided to you by your surgeon.
