What Is Abdominal Liposuction?

Abdominal liposuction is a common cosmetic procedure used for body contouring. The process involves fat removal from the abdomen through liposuction.

Who Should Opt For Abdominal Liposuction?

The tendency to gain abdominal fat is often hereditary, due to which fat deposits in and around this area are often non-responsive to exercise and dieting. A healthy individual who is not extremely overweight may opt for abdominal liposuction as a means of getting rid of ‘hard to get rid of’ fat deposits for good. Abdominal liposuction is a body contouring plastic surgery and should not be used as a weight loss measure. People with larger amounts of excess fat and muscle should consider tummy tuck surgery.

Procedure

Abdominal liposuction is carried out under local or generally anesthesia and takes at least 1 to 2 hours. Small incisions are made on the sides of the area from which fat removal has to take place and thin hollow tubes called cannula are inserted inside through these incisions and the fat taken out using vacuum suction.

Benefits

Fat removal through abdominal liposuction is long lasting, since fat cells are permanently removed from this area. The body procedure can greatly benefit healthy people who exercise regularly in getting and maintaining flat, fat free abs.

Risks and Side Effects

People who gain weight after abdominal liposuction often acquire fat deposits around the abdomen, which may make the body look disproportionate and lumpy. Also, the procedure carries the risks associated with all types of plastic surgery, which are bleeding, scarring and infection. Swelling and bruising are temporary after effects that go off after two to three weeks.

Costs

In the US, an abdominal liposuction will cost you approximately $2500 to $3500.
